As part of this strategy, in 2023, specialists from Aqua Logo Engineering developed a preliminary design for the reconstruction of the polar bear enclosure. The main idea of the exposition renovation is to create a visitor zone with the possibility to observe bears underwater.
Such a popular architectural and structural element among visitors requires impeccable professionalism of designers and builders in terms of ensuring the safety of animals and people. Our company has extensive experience in working with underwater glazing, and a vivid example of successful realization of such a project is the new pinniped complex in the Moscow Zoo.
Another feature of the project is the year-round operation of polar bear reservoirs. In winter, the water in them will be heated. Hence the need to design a heated pavilion for viewing the exposition so that the underwater glass does not crack due to the large temperature difference between the outside and inside of the pond.
The project also provides accessibility for low mobility groups to maximize the range of visitors. The total built-up area is 190 square meters, with a warm contour underground area of 45 square meters.
The underwater viewing area is directly adjacent to the polar bear enclosure. The new location allows visitors to see the animals on land and underwater through two large windows
The section shows that the main route for visitors to the -3 meter mark is along a stairway equipped with an inclined platform for descending and ascending for people with low mobility
