11.10.2023

The zoo complex (in fact, a zoo) is located in the Khotynetsky district of the Oryol region in the territory of the Oryol Polesie National Park.

Orel Polessie National Park

Orel Polessie National Park

It is home to the largest population of bison in Russia
The National Park is unique in that it is home to the largest population of bison in Russia and the second largest in the world (after Belovezhskaya Pushcha).

In addition to bison, there are deer, roe deer, wild boar, elk and even lynx here
There are 940 species of plants and 285 species of vertebrate animals registered on the territory of the Park.  The Red Books of different levels include 23 species of plants and 89 species of animals. In addition to bison, deer, roe deer, wild boars, elk and even lynx live here. Beavers, minks, otters, otters, Siberian otters and muskrats have taken a fancy to the shores of local water bodies. Among birds there are grouse, grouse, partridges, quail.

The zoo-volunteer complex was established in 1996. Its management closely cooperates with the national park, plans large-scale development of the territory and updating of the concept.

Within the framework of the zoo development project, Aqua Logo Engineering specialists developed a new image of the zoo, the main mission of which will be to demonstrate the diversity and value of the animal world of Central Russia, to tell about the national project of bison conservation.

Specialization on local species, including through interactive educational expositions, will allow visitors to get acquainted with representatives of Russian fauna, which are almost impossible to see in their natural habitat.

Thus, we will create a "thematic zoo", which has no analog in the whole world. The zoo complex will become a bright business card of the Orel region. It will attract visitors not only from neighboring cities, but also from all over Russia, and will also be of interest to foreign citizens.

The territory of the complex is currently about 16 hectares, of which only half is developed. In addition to the development of the vacant land, the project involves the complete reconstruction of the developed area to create a coherent and cohesive logistics.

The project has developed new spacious cage complexes that comply with animal housing standards. It is also planned to expand the economic zone. For the comfort of visitors and to increase tourist attractiveness, we have qualitatively improved infrastructure facilities and increased their number (cafes, restrooms, information facilities).

The development of the recreational sector will have a positive impact on the increase in attendance. There will be walking areas around the lake, birdwatching areas, interactive areas for the whole family, a botanical garden where local plants will be presented. It is also planned to build hotel cabins for tourists who come from far and wide for the weekend.
