Haarchaana polar bear testing an electric fence

05.01.2024

Aqua Logo Engineering masters have extensive experience in installing electric fences in the enclosures of various animals ordered by zoos. For example, in the Moscow Zoo we installed electric fences in the enclosures of elephants, lions, hyenas, monkeys and other animal species. Electric fences are mounted along the perimeter in open expositions from above; this is the most reliable way to prevent animals from escaping without causing any harm to them.

In December 2023, our specialists surrounded the polar bear enclosure in the Leningrad Zoo with an electric fence. In the process, we got acquainted with the zoo's favorite and the owner of the enclosure, named Haarchaana ("snowflake" in Yakutian). The bear cub recently turned 7 years old and was brought to the Leningrad Zoo in 2017 the Yakutsk Zoo Orto Doidu.

Haarchaana is an extremely intelligent and active animal. One of her favorite pastimes is throwing toys on the edge of the pool and then knocking them over. She is constantly inventing her own entertainment and is able to distinguish between zoo employees, understanding what is required of her. One day she decided to test the strength of the electric fencing we had just started installing on the enclosure walls.

After watching the wonderful video of the Leningrad Zoo about how Haarchaana decorates the tree for the New Year, many people will want to see the artistic polar bear in person.

In natural conditions, female polar bears live up to 25-30 years. The life expectancy record for these predators in captivity is 45 years. Let's wish Haarchaan bear enjoy life even longer!
