Electric fence in the summer monkey enclosures of the Moscow Zoo

Back in April 2023, when the monkeys were in the winter exposition of the Moscow Zoo, our company installed an electric fence in their spacious summer residence. Earlier, we installed electric shepherds in the enclosures of lions, hyenas, elephants and wolverines.

With the warming in early June, the zoo moved the heat-loving orangutans into summer enclosures. These are large open-air areas with decorations imitating the natural habitat of primates - rocks, wooden structures, streams and waterfalls.

Orangutans are quite large and strong animals, whose life is closely connected with the forest. They feed on fruits and leaves of trees, even sleep on them, fearing enemies. It is not difficult for them to move vertically, using long and powerful limbs. Therefore, it is not surprising that monkey enclosures open from above are equipped with protective wire fences, to which pulse voltage is supplied by a special generator.

The parameters of exposure to electricity are selected so that the animals are not harmed, but also do not repeat attempts to overcome the electric fence.

However, looking at the calm behavior of families of Sumatran and Bornean orangutans under the friendly Moscow sky, you realize that they have created all the conditions for a happy and peaceful life here. And there is no need to run away!
